On November 20, 2021, the diversion tunnel gates of the Karot Hydropower Project, invested in and constructed by China Three Gorges Corporation (hereinafter referred to as "CTG"), were successfully closed as planned, initiating reservoir impoundment and laying a solid foundation for the commissioning and power generation of all generating units in the first half of 2022.

As a leading enterprise in the cable industry, Far East Cable Co., Ltd., a wholly-owned subsidiary of Far East Smart Energy Co., Ltd. (short name: Far East Shares, stock code: 600869), participated in the construction of the Karot Hydropower Project. It signed a cooperation agreement with CTG's Yangtze Three Gorges Technology & Economic Development Co., Ltd., providing high-quality technical services and solution support for this project, contributing to its high-quality construction.

The Karot Hydropower Station is located upstream of Karot Bridge in Pakistan's Punjab Province, 74 km downstream from Mangla Dam and approximately 55 km west of Islamabad in a straight line. Primarily for power generation, it also provides comprehensive benefits including flood control, sediment retention, improved downstream navigation, and development of reservoir-area shipping. The project has a total installed capacity of 720,000 kilowatts and a total investment of 1.74 billion U.S. dollars. It is the first hydropower investment project under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and the first hydropower investment project included in the joint statement of the governments of China and Pakistan.

In April 2015, the project broke ground with the presence of leaders from both China and Pakistan. Over the past six years, the project team has overcome a series of difficulties and challenges, successively achieving major milestones such as river diversion, plant building roof closure, and hoisting of the first unit's rotor. Particularly since the outbreak of the global COVID-19 pandemic in early 2020, a large number of "reverse-travelers" and dedicated personnel have remained stationed at the construction site, overcoming obstacles and ensuring the smooth progress of the project.

Upon completion, the Karot project will generate an average of 3.2 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity annually, providing competitively priced clean energy to Pakistan, meeting the electricity needs of about 5 million local people, and effectively alleviating Pakistan's power shortage. After all units are commissioned, the project is expected to save approximately 1.4 million tons of standard coal annually and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by about 3.5 million tons, promoting Pakistan's energy development and socio-economic growth while contributing to the global "carbon neutrality" goal.

As a large-scale hydropower project, the construction of the Karot Hydropower Station relies on the support of numerous supporting enterprises.
